Welcome :)

‘Zones de Convergence’ is an interactive DVD treating the days of the summit of the G8 in Evian from 1st to 3rd June 2003. The streets of Geneva, an independent media centre and a colloquium named SoIA, Summit of Interventionist Art. The video images are articulated with statements, analysis and questions on political art and critical cultural production.

In the streets we witness a marked police presence trying to control the situation. Nevertheless we observe that stakes of political power and lack of democratic sense divert these strategies. The images of these power struggles between authorities and the civil society compose a zone of the project.

The omnipresence of all forms of media is apparent. The established production conditions that normally lead public opinion were toppled over by the media project Geneva03 that set up a TV studio to produce live-streamed video images on the Internet. Everyone who filmed brought his videos and gave evidence on line.

SoIA – ‘Summit of Interventionist Art’ at Forde, Geneva, places itself in the middle of the anti globalisation events during G8 in Evian. The agenda contained debates and practice around critical and activist art in a real context. Parts of the discussions form, by quoting; another zone in this video.

‘ Zones de Convergence’ follows the chronological order of the events through videos produced by individuals and recovered on TV. Images and texts are engraved in a topography that connects these zones of political acts. This constellation opens possibilities to interpret protesting intelligence. The apparent convergences form the axe of this video essay.
